Continuing Effort to Improve South Carolina School Performance

In an article I found by the Associated Press, a new initiative has been announced to inspire innovation in South Carolina schools. The "WhatWorksSC Award" winner will be announced on Wednesday, October 26th, to honor efforts to start education programs within the school.

The finalists for the award are: Clinton Elementary reading program in Lancaster, SC; a training program for elementary teachers at Clemson University, and a state scholarship program. The winner will receive $10,000 from BB&T to help further the program.

  1. It's nice that outside funding can support educational innovation. However, it would be even better if this money would come from within the system, instead of requiring private interests to support education.

  2. I agree, but I think at the rate that the South Carolina education system is going, any assistance at all is much needed, no matter where it may come from. It's sad that the system has gotten into such a state.
